Has the UN resolved any conflict or peace keeping?
Ultimately the peace keeping and conflict resolving in the Rwanda genocide was not successful. An organisation which was created on the basis to prevent genocide (as seen in the holocaust) allowed the brutal murder of the Tutsis at a rate 5 times that of the Nazis (www.tigweb,org, 2004). Gerald Prunjer, describes the UN efforts in Rwanda as “…the powerless UN ‘military’ force which watched the genocide without being allowed to lift a finger,” (www.tigweb.org, 2004). The conflict resolving came as an obvious failure, and the UN did not take the correct procedure in peacekeeping. It is evident the UN used more effort in trying to keep the mission cheap rather than making every effort to create peace and prevent the genocide. Sadly this is not the UN’s only horrific failure similar to the World War 2 holocaust.
